dunya is a girl boss. raskolnikov is actually insufferable but i sense he’s heading down a better path?

great dialogue and presence again… this book is amazing, and this type of prose was once hard to grasp (even though i talk and write similar to it) but now it’s familiar and a joy to read.
and… razmukhin drunk is so me LOL.

what a ride it has been.
a lot to unpack… too much. the story is treading on perfection to say the least.

thrilling dialogue, really enjoying the cat and mouse chase between raskolnikov and zametov.
will raksolnikov kill himself? turn himself in? or get caught stupidly in an hilarious way?

i fw razmuhikin, he be putting raskolnikov on 💯
dream sequence was genuinely fye
im starting to get a hang of the writing and it’s reeling me in. it’s starting to really grow on me. i can visualize a lot more now, the prose is very good and im starting to see the words become more vivid. the pacing is great, and reading faster is probably the way to go… so just a flow state ig lol

a crime. this would most def be me if i ever killed anybody. just ridden by guilt and paranoia and i would be utterly nervous and feeling light all of the time.
instead of lowk being a dick like raskolnikov, i feel like i would be pretending to be extremely blissful and jumpy, but they would know…
this dude ain’t special tho, he needs to drop the ego and accept the $ the christian mom and daughter gave him

this is the hardest book i have ever read on my own. but, it’s so good and the writing and general plot is very suspenseful
def a book that gets better on rereads
raskolnikov is not handling the guilt terribly lol. he is mentally and physically sick. i have to remember that he’s a normal, smart man committing this, and that dostovesky is arguing this is what the normal man will feel like after committing such

the writing and pacing is beautifully done. i can feel the tension and vividly visualize what raskolnikov has done… what a shame.
this scene will definitely haunt the rest of the narrative and im glad it was done so well because even though it was horrifying and petrifying, its hard not to immerse yourself and you are almost forced to look.
i cannot wait to see how this story truly unfolds and unravels itself

raskolnikovs extraordinary man complex is lowk so funny bc like why would God send you to kill someone 😭 n this dude is laying in bed doing nothing till like 3 in the afternoon lol
why would he not be bound to regular morality, why does he think he’s ‘above’ certain principles

tbh i need to gather more knowledge about psychology and become greater at psycho-analyzing characters.
the dream sequence was crazy, and i came to a great, albeit obvious, revelation that the characters represent raskolnikov himself. i studied this last semester, mainly Freud/ Lacan, but i forgot LOL.
this is going to be the toughest book that i will have ever read 🫩
resistance creates strength 💯

bro what am i reading 😭 this dudes letter to God is so funny 😭
idk what Morrison is trying to conveying rn but it can’t be any good
ig this eases the tension from the part prior to this. i didn’t even know it was foretold in the beginning until now.
the stream of conscious narration style is lowk cool and it feels like im talking to a relative about family drama. with plots all over the place

this book is timeless in the way it tackles issues that are specially relevant in 2026:
beauty and conformity.
morrison answers this (i feel like) by telling her readers to have a strong self identity. be authentic to yourself.
pilate from song of solomon embodied this and i strive to be like her everyday.
i like how the north symbolizes the fleeing of one’s identity and then creating a worse superficial identity.

hearing pauline’s (chollys) backstory is fascinating and tragic.
morrison seems to be building the foundation as to why pecola is the way she is, and why vanity is ultimately destructive. whether it’s through looks or status.
i see morrison projecting through pauline, specifically highlighting the idea that trying to fit in will not benefit oneself. being individualistic and chasing that dream is most important

mr henry needs to be put down….
protect these kids innocence!!!! poor frieda, poor everybody really. so sad. just a vicious cycle ig? is that what morrison is trying to say idk.
her prose and storytelling once again is phenomenal, highly entertaining, and the way the story is framed is pretty cool. i feel kind of dumb of catching on lowk late but im glad to have.
the name “maginot line” is hilarious too

asking questions and annotating heavily is the best way to read. im getting so much out of this book by it, but i think its more-so that im familiar with morrison already, and am becoming a better reader.

morrisons prose is so sick.
feel terrible for pecola. poor girl.
i feel bad for geraldine a little bit?? but she’s mean and stuck up and uptight. i think i moreso pity her.
morrison knows how to set up a scene. the way she writes is so sharp and poetic.
i see what morrison is trying to tell, but i need more story to really decipher and put together, what the true meaning of this novel is.

pt 2.
i liked the three girls pecola was with, and how it was juxtaposed later on.
i feel bad for the claudia and her sister and it opens up some past wounds for me, wanting to be beautiful and have the same privilege maurice had.
it sucks that this type of privilege exists and it is very sorrowful knowing you could do nothing to change it :(
so many great lines and descriptions by morrison, cant wait for more

was a little while ago when i last read, but now i feel the effects of the novel more than ever.
morrisons storytelling is great and hilarious, and can be deeply deciphered which is great and makes for a great time.
i really wanted to like maurice or wtv, but i still feel like the characters could’ve gotten along more. if clauida and her sister didn’t push it too much. maybe im missing the point

first off, i will probably gain far more insight to the first 30 pages of the story when it is all said and done but it was alr. however, the breedloves backstory is very interesting and i really feel for pencola :( :(. morrison is a very great writer and her prose is very solid and it is a little humorous so far. i see the vision of her story, and why she’s doing some things and it doesn’t seem to end nicely :(

p2:
dostovesky packs every page with profound messages and it is extremely dense, packing a punch.
it’s hard understanding EVERYTHING bc there is a lot to unravel
he gets his point across very effectively and efficiently.
am noticing lots of overlap with invisible man although this narrator is far more unlikable and disgusting
but this book is great! reminds me of a lesser version of me (am i the underground man?)

“i am a sick man… a wicked man”
sums this man up VERY WELL.
i feel so dirty reading him, like the words just spray me with the narrators illness
but, it is semi-relatable which is scary
at least he is very funny and in a twisted weird way sincere? at least self-aware.
in apropos of the wet snow he is vv unlikable and just ugh. ugh encapsulates him.
very contradictory
a tale of “what not to be done” hehe

pacing, rhythm, flow, cadence is impeccable. what a stretch is novel is going on. i just need more and more of this. finally what the novel has been working up towards. the narrator not only wakes up. he arms himself. ready for war. if the entire book was like this i would have read it in a single night. everything seems to have clicked. he has opened his eyes to the gentle “indifference of the world.”

beautiful prose and the narration is picking up like crazy. or maybe i just havent noticed it like the narrator. anyhow it is very enticing and warrants a reread sometime. so much mythology and allusions that i am unable to see just yet. i see how morrison was inspired by ellison. need to analyze this novel like with song of solomon. the blues remind me of new orleans. need to visit the south and truly experience it
