for a story this sensational, I'm surprisingly bored. I think partly this is because the author is trying to do her due diligence regarding all the legal/financial stuff, and partly because there are so many names. so many names of the guy's girlfriends specifically. big yikes.

kinda crazy that people were building entire businesses on hypnosis in the 80s?? (nvm I have listened to 80s music, this is not surprising)

We all have our own ways of dealing with the end of the school year.

So far the best part is the clarification of historical context -- the way sex and class interacted; the actual power women did and didn't have in society; and especially the contemporary situations where women did have some kind of religious or spiritual authority. It's a helpful correction to our usual assumptions about ancient women.

deeply annoyed by the constant bickering of the MCs getting in the way of the far more interesting plot line of Lane and her roommates. this could be so good if it would just flesh out those characters and let us spend more time with them.

so far it has the most fascinating concepts... and the most annoying tropes. enemies to lovers and forbidden romance, of course with 0 reason for why the male lead takes complete leave of any common sense he might have possessed to literally stalk her.

I'm loving the clear, no-nonsense explanation of why *all* the macros (including carbs and fat) are essential for our health. Having grown up in the low-fat and then low-carb world of the 2000s, this is incredibly refreshing.

unfortunately, it does seem that holly black lived through the 2000s, and by that I mean she lived through twilight

Loving this so far. The symbols are not meant to be parsed out and reduced to their "literal" correspondence. They create an imaginative world which we inhabit and which changes the way we see our world.

Reading as a "self study" assignment for my class on Hebrews to Revelation. So far nothing especially new, although I'm enjoying the detailed look at the various ancient cosmologies.

This is such a perfect book for this moment. Not only is it set in the autumn; it's about people loving and fighting for each other in a world that seems to be falling apart.

Is this... perhaps... a romance that actually works? in a recent novel?? it's a rivals-to-lovers that isn't toxic?? I didn't actually think that was possible

I actually started this one ages ago and then forgot about it for a while. Now it's my lunch reading (although I'm debating going back for a full reread -- there's a lot of dense theological work going on, and I'd like to spend more time thinking through it).
