H.P. Lovecraft + H.G. Wells - racism

Very fun! Harry Potter with but with demons and from the teachers perspective.

Listening to this one because Maggie Gyllenhaal is the GOAT and Russian literature is wordy. I think I realized that I like the Russian classics because of how real the characters feel and how the emphasis is in thought and feeling where the actual external conflicts are extremely briefly described. Grounding description is ever present throughout which really roots you in the setting and draws you in.

Another absolute banger for R. F. Kuang. I can’t wait for more to see more from this author. I love the intricacies of the fantastic magic system and how the main conflict is still something so real. I think I’ll be rereading this one again and again.

I’m enthralled. I love the protagonists ”oh f**k this is happening to me” attitude but still being competent. Usually that take is reserved for the supernaturally gifted, the inexplicably wisened, or the complete buffoon. It is nice to get that from someone that just learned stuff and acknowledges their inadequacies. Coming off a lot of “hero” stories I’m enjoying a “person” protagonist.
