This is about Europe in the 1890s - “Taken together, the bombings and attacks fit a familiar pattern. They were perpetrated by young men who possessed only a hazy understanding of anarchist theory, who usually felt they had nothing to lose, who were motivated by revenge or the example of someone else, and who were willing to die for their cause.”

I guess I’m just reading presidential assassination books now.

I did not know I needed to read an account of gardening in the 1930s by the “Mulch Queen,” but here we are. This book is perfect.

This is not sparking joy. I think I’m going to quit.

“We forgive many people for what they cannot do for us, but not our mothers: we protect our mothers more than we protect others, too. Sometimes I think it may be just as well that I cannot have my own children…I would rather march through life without the futile protection from my own children. People often forget that it is always a gamble to be a mother; I am not a gambler.”

I was dubious about this. The title. The cover. So far, it’s VERY good.
