enjoying it so far. i stayed up all night reading it🫩😸

ok but why am i enjoying this so much? it feels like a slightly elevated frieda mcfadden novel and i haven’t been able to put it down. the way rf kuang writes is so down to earth i feel like she pulled some of these references straight from the crypts of the chronically online

I’m getting through it; that’s all i have to say. I will finish this book in 2025 if it kills me.

This is another book that you can’t be in for the plot. Because while the premise is interesting and the characters are vibrant and eccentric and the setting is positively magical, not much is going on. Somehow nothing happens,and yet, at the same time, everything happens. For such a politely written book, I’m wondering how exactly the tension of the climax will be built up and released.

Continuation from my last post: You can’t pick up this book and be in it for the plot, otherwise you’ll burn out. When you pick up this book, you have to be in it for the wordsmithing, the prose, and the characters. I’m usually too invested in a plot to gaf about many of the other elements when I’m reading, but this book is truly so masterfully composed that I can’t help but admire the talent as I read.

I’m on page 385 and I just hit the halfway mark. While this book is biblically large and the plot isn’t what I’d call fast-paced, I am thoroughly enjoying my reading experience. Donna Tartt’s way with words is so captivating, I hardly realize the lack of plot points in some sections because I’m so drawn in.

WHAT DO ‘BURIED MYSTERIES AND OLD MAGIC’ SMELL LIKE!!!!! I’M GOING TO LOSE MY MIND

This is my first ARC so yay! Just finished chapter 1 and I feel that the world building was thrown at me all at once and in a rather heavy-handed way. Also the call to adventure happened so quickly we didn’t even get through a single scene of exposition. Despite these things I am keeping an open mind going into chapter 2.

“He tasted like exquisite nightmares and stolen dreams. Like the wings of fallen angels and bottles of fresh moonlight.” What are we doing. What does any of that mean. Give me a flavor not a bad attempt at poetry.

did i enjoy the first book? no. am i starting the second book? yes.

just started this and it’s my first sally rooney book. I think I’m going to have a very hard time with the lack of quotations. help

I think I’m gonna DNF this one. I just don’t care about these characters, and it doesn’t feel like the author does either. The writing is too emotionless and objective for the subject material and I really just can’t be bothered to spend another 8 hours of my life finishing this “story.” I put story in quotations because very little has happened and I doubt it’s going to pick up.

This book has gotten more sufferable since my last update. For one, the section from Manuel’s pov ended. I started stomping and clapping. It’s still not the most interesting read but I’ll take just boring over boring AND misogynistic any day. I’m getting through it a little easier from this third person perspective now, or is it the hospital’s perspective? Idk but I’ll update again soon.

And just as I thought I was starting to like lit fic……I pick up this book. Either it’s the slowest start to a novel EVER or nothing has happened and nothing will happen in this book. I’m going to try to push through but there’s no intrigue right now; I could put this book down today and never think about it or the characters ever again. Also Manuel is still just as insufferable in his descriptions of women.

I’m about a minute into Manuel’s narration and I already want to DNF solely because of it. “and those tetas… just enough. Round and tender, the kind you want to test for firmness like a fruit. Feel the weight of them settle in your fingers.” Excuse me???? I had to double check the author because I thought there was no possible way a woman could’ve written this, but alas. I’m praying he has an arc bc jfc
