Cathy survived the attack from Mr. Edward, and she managed to yet find another rich man who will provide her both safety and wealth, Adam. But just when you think you know where things are headed, Cathy seduces Charles.

Chapter 10. Away from home, Cathy becomes Mr. Edward’s possession, not one of his prostitutes, but his alone. After getting drunk on champagne, she reveals a darker side that unsettles him. Disturbed, he takes her outside town to punish her, but the violence escalates beyond his control. Cathy survives his brutal punishment.

Finished Chapter 8, and we’re introduced to Cathy, a character whose personality immediately feels unsettling and deeply questionable. After her parents die in a house fire, there’s chilling speculation that she may have started it herself, deliberately planted false clues, and ultimately murdered them.

“It was better if he didn’t know anything, safer, wiser, and much more comfortable.” Mr. Williams thought to himself.

On the other hand, Charles who loved his father very much, suspects him of stealing. Adam went on to say that “maybe love makes you suspicious and doubting”.

Just finished Chapter 7. Adam is now back at the Salinas Valley after the death of his father, Cyrus. Adam and Charles found out that their father left them fortune. This made them suspect that their father is a dishonest man. Adam went on this monologue about how he does not love his father, but he had faith in him and therefore does not question the fortune they just inherited.
