This book is giving me major Garden Spells/Practical Magic vibes. There isn’t any magic, but the two very different sisters running away from home and one coming back after an abusive relationship feels very similar in a good way. Not the abuse, just the setup! I hope it ends up just as well for these sisters as it did for those sets.

I’m giving up during his love letter to the 1%. Do not need this in my life.

This book is hitting a little too close to home. I swear some of the fox news commentators are in these pages.

So far, I really enjoy the history of medicine and Sarah, the housemaid/nurse. I’m still guessing about the identity of the murderer.

I am on chapter 19 and am having a little trouble getting into this one. I'm guessing it's just a really slow build.

I’m wrapping myself up in this book like a warm comfort blanket. America is going to shit (even Canada is boycotting us!?!?) and I am going to keep hope alive, in part, through this book.

Carrie Fisher’s discussion of her relationship with Harrison Ford is so relatable and honest. She isn’t really condemning the man (well, a bit), but this patriarchal system she was all wrapped up in. She does a great job of contextualizing what the set and subculture of it were like, this microcosm of Hollywood and American culture. Her journal entries are wonderful. I love them.

I'm taking my time with this one. I know that the stories can get a bit repetitive, so I am just picking it up to read about a murderer at a time. I've gotten through the first three and really enjoyed each of them. I love her feminist analysis of the news coverage about each woman. I have to look up the two serial killers she mentioned at the end of Nannie Doss' entry.

I love the blend of autobiography and true-crime detectiveness of this book. I love McNamara's voice!

I didn't plan to read two books about Germans living through WWII at the same time, but I'm glad that I did. This narrator is helping me with the German :)

This book seems eerily salient. I keep thinking about what our country is currently doing to families on the border we share with Mexico.
