Listening to this. really enjoying it so far although a world where you're constantly lying and deceiving isn't exactly where I'd want to be.

really cool section of the book. I didn't know that Louis IX conducted a full blown amphibious landing during the seventh crusade! As a Marine, amphibious landings are a large part of our legacy, so it's really cool to see a 1250 beach assualt.

Sort of reading this a half a goof for the gals on the soccer team. 3 chapters in, and it's interesting comparing it to my other fantasy series, The Witcher.

Really enjoying this so far. Has me yearning for the high seas. It's a moment I'm happy feeling that my previous reading is retained well enough as I'm recognizing most of the characters brought up so far.

This book in connecting with me in a big way! I heard the Author of The History of Byzantium - https://open.spotify.com/episode/5psP... - and I enjoyed the Author so I bought it. Really good so far! He is making this very accessible to people who may not know the era as well and I'm realizing that the stuff it's covering is what first excited me about history as a boy.
