Decided to read it in French, instead of reading the translation in English. So far I understand most of it, but ended up writing so many unknown words in my notebook. Perhaps this is a sign I should return to studying French again 🥹

It's official: Jonathan Strange became one of my favourite book characters. I don't know if this is accurate of me to say, but the love between him and his wife Arabella reminds me of Dracula and Elisabeta 🥹

Will I finish this book or will this book finish me?

I cannot explain how much I LOVE Jonathan Strange. He's so iconic, a feminist, the way he appreciates women and treats people like equals. A walking green flag. As for Mr Norrell, he's strange, unique, weird and annoying. Sometimes he has his interesting and funny moments, but overall he's annoying because of his simplicity. Looking forward to the book club meeting, because I feel like it's going to be interesting

The love-hate relationship with this book is so strong, but I'm determined to finish it ☝️

Well, this is going to be a wild ride 🌪️🎢

The chances of me not falling asleep because of this book are very very high 🫣

It's been a while since I read such a long book. But, it captures my curiosity and the pictures on some of the pages make the book charming. But the footnotes are way too long

So far, these are my impressions of the characters from the first 50 pages:

The Narrator: a timid, naive, young woman who doesn't stand up to herself when Mrs Van Hopper is being awful towards her

Mrs Van Hopper: I hate that woman! I hope she won't be present for the rest of the book

Maximilan de Winter: I don't know why, but there's something off about him

Rebecca: I can feel her presence even from the beginning

Mr Norrell is definitely a very interesting individual. A group of magicians underestimate his magical abilities. Mr Norrell showing them that he is indeed a magician like the badass he is makes them give up their gift of magic. Then, he reads a book so nonchalantly while listening to two gentlemen talking about his state. Well, I'll be damned 👀

Still listening to the dark academia playlist, drinking tea, cuddling with my cat... Couldn't ask for better autumn filled with dark acamedia vibes
