It’s interesting to see how Mallory really does consider Caroline to be her mother. She does really finally feel fulfilled and accepted in this family, even referring to her as mother in her narration. Also like how much references there are to pop culture in this book.

Interesting contrast between physical and digital things. Russell reads the paper newspaper, Teddy draws on paper. They contrast to the teenagers using their cellphones in the shops. Very interesting book so far, looking forward to the next chapters.

Clever way of showing how Dantès blends his work life and personal life by describing his outfit to his party among friends as “half military and half civilian”. The part where Edmond meets Fernand is also very well-written, showing the great contrast between the pure joy of Dantès and Mercédès, and the gloominess of Fernand.
