Thank god that's over

Not wasting any more of my time on this book that seeks to normalise heinous action and inaction, fails to develop characters over an extended period of childhood and adolescence. I wish the editor had done a better job or at least shown a draft to someone European. Maybe ill finish it one day, but there'd have to be literally nothing else to read

Frustratingly inauthentic. I wish the editor had picked up on Americanisms and used European units of measurement, for example. It grates so much each time I see "feet", "inches", "davenport," that it pulls me right out of the storytelling. Hoping that this happens less and the story progresses.

Always takes me a while to acclimatise to Elif Shafak
