George Smiley is someone who can be overlooked, blend into the background, the perfect attributes of an agent. But Smiley is no longer working in the field, instead he is given safe work at home. Smiley speaks to an agent, reassuring him that his future was safe and that there would be no further investigation of his membership of the Communist Party. The agent is found dead but was it suicide? Smiley is on the case.

A very worthwhile read

Anyone who is serious about the claims that is subject to institutional anti-Semitism must read this book. It dissects these claims and upholds the Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn as fighters against racism.

A brilliant retelling of the story of Achilles from the point of view of Patroclus. Marvellous. Would also highly recommend Circe.

Having met Cliff on more than one occasion, I looked forward to reading a biography by a close friend and comrade. Despite this it was a balanced and thoughtful read of a theoretician who was much derided by other sections of the left
