Peter Bensen is finished with The House in the Cerulean Sea (Cerulean Chronicles, #1)
I had to reevaluate this book soon after I started. I began by listening to the audio version and did not like the reading style at all. But I tried again with the written book and fell into it fully. It reminded me of the writing of Roal Dahl, Diane Wyn Jones, and maybe Niel Gaiman, but brough forward to include Queer sensibilities. I recommend you buy the premise/world and pay attention to the characters.

Peter Bensen is reading Jewel of the Endless Erg (Mage Errant, #2)
I just finished Jewel of the Endless Erg: Mage Errant Book 2. I liked it just as much as the first book in the series. Good world creation, good magical system, a plot! And good characters who are brave, smart and interesting.

I liked the first one, this one not as much. i've put it down after reading 60 pages, maybe I'll come back to it later. the character's moodiness bothered me alot.

Peter Bensen is finished with The Historian
This is not a book I thought I'd love, but I did. The language is amazing and the plotting, emotional honesty sans parail. I got bogged down near the end, a little too many bulgarian monestaries, but an exellent example of historic fantasy/fiction done well using a genre I thought I'd given up on

Peter Bensen is reading The Mermaid's Sister
I just finished The Mermaid's Sister. I enjoyed it, language, story, characters, though the middle part went on too long

my daughter in law recommended this, 1970's russian scifi. the translation is wonderful, quite literal I think, our character's motivation is fascinating and unclear. russian sensibilities are not ours, but very human and interesting. very different from books about spoiled self absorbed teenagers!

Peter Bensen is finished with Divergent (Divergent, #1)
I really enjoyed this book. I'm male, white and over 60. I thought it was beautifully written, I thought the lead character was complex, thoughtful, and unapologetic. Since I am sick to death of angst-ridden spoiled teenagers, I enjoyed Beatrice. To me it is not a derivation of Hunger games. Old fashion scifi was satirical, read ursula leguin, so is this story. I anticipate the next books with pleasure.
