Neftalí escapes the Mexican police. Runs back home to his family in Mez. The whole fam has to flee bc. The police will find out and kill the son for leaving. They head to USA start a new life in a small poverty town. Family gets job and the dad develops a drinking prob and dies. The sisters are prostitutes and moms runs away with her yung luv. Son leaves to LA to buy land and start new life out of poverty town

Dominguez rancho was burned down and the village finds out that bandidos were the culprits. They’re on the run from the federales which I assume are the police of that time period. They’re bandidos force the villagers to help them and fix their horses and take more young men from the village to fight and run off with them. Neftalí is recruited by the defeated to fight against the bandidos.

Read the forward, note from the authors daughter and began reading the story of the train crashing in the mountains. Apparently the story is kinda similar to the authors own family history throughout the generations. I’m at the part where the grandfather is a kid and the author is laying out the scene to what the day to day life was like.
