Belyaev really did read a theosophy book published in 1917 and go "hmmm... The mysticism school described in this one chapter is so cool, I want to put my OC in this exact setting", copied 90% of the chapter and built up a sci-fi story on top of it. Interesting choice.

Boy sees a girl on a walk one time, doesn't speak to her. Picks himself up from rock bottom, ditches bad habits, takes care of himself, restores his role in society, all because of her. Gives the girl an imaginary name Beatrice and dreams of her. Tries to paint her portrait. Manages to paint Demian instead. 100/100 book

Excellent read. Being unable to do most things with my hands and focusing on watching or hearing media, I strongly relate to the titular disembodied living head. It's about enjoying the parts of life still accessible to you and finding worth in things you never considered special

Really loving the novel but I got stuck hard in Mount Jiao chapters, can't seem to be as interested as usual... also it's currently difficult for me with it not being an audiobook so it's on pause

The narrator's struggles and philosophical observations are real and human, even coming from a child. This book feels very Umineko to me
