Started late one night but wasn’t worth staying up for. Fairly standard, just as the synopsis described so far, only unknown is how the baby’s father will handle the situation, and as he is a side character, I don’t really care.

This is another book for which I did not write a review immediately and again not a memorable story so I will have to reread/browse so that I can refresh my mind to write a review. I have been in a less than three star mood recently, and I’d love to get my hands on a truly enjoyable old school historical romance. Any recommendations?

Another recently read book that didn’t leave much of an impact. I am going to browse-read because the trope speaks to me and I have a vague memory of enjoying the story even though it was not memorable. I do want to write a review but will do it on my reread whenever that is.

I read this book recently and unfortunately did not write my review at that time. Now I can’t remember the story so I guess that says it all

He takes her in and doesn’t ask why, I happily suspend belief for my HRs but this is ridiculous. Him grooming her for seduction - creepy, pervy, not steamy. He seems to have an obsessive personality, his first fiancée drove him to drink, he could not move on with his life until he found his “angel” who saved him and now the h, who he stalks like a predator.
I won’t DNF but I’m skimming.

Disturbing, I’m at 46%and I find the MCs’ relationship predatory. He’s an older, experienced man supposedly sheltering a naive, innocent young girl (the blurb said “bluestocking” but must have meant she was wearing a blue stocking because nothing so far about her even hints at it).

This was on a list of about 15 books Goodreads “readers also read”. I read and gave 4 stars to almost all of them so I have to give this another chance.

I don’t remember reading this a year ago so I’m giving it another chance since today author usually writes my kinds of HR. 3 stars at the time, so let’s see.

Still waiting for the joy, I don’t think there is one happy person in this story.

I’m struggling, not because of bad writing, but how well Leigh has written these characters that you can’t but have an emotional response. I’m angry, frustrated, wanting to slap a few people and I need some joy to continue reading, hopefully the story gets some happiness soon.

I don’t think I’m going to read anymore, I looked at the others in the series and it seems more of the same.

They both think the opposite of what they actually say so this attraction is in their heads but not their actions. She looks at him and can’t stopping thinking how gorgeous he is, in spite of the insults he’s throwing at her. I don’t have a minute of tension towards the mystery or romance

It seems to be trying to be witty and fun but it’s the same scene over and over - he’s caustic and she’s trying not to fall in love with him. He left on their wedding day, stayed away for six months and turns up wounded, belittling her from the first minute.

Fun story but no conflict or tension so far

I need this book to end so I can get on with my day. The story in a nutshell - he looks mean at her, she bites her lip, he steps forward, a curl of her hair falls into her face, he steps forward again, she slips and stumbles into his arms. Repeat

I read to this point with one eye after seeing the reviews. Luckily, I knew going in that Drake would be frustrating and Emmaline would be a walk over. It’s all well and good to say that he’s suffering blah blah, but all her public efforts have been shameful and I blame him.

I’ve 15% left and so if things get better, there won’t be much of it. I’m so sad for Honoria.

This book is depressing, what am i reading??? This girl is beyond a doormat; i must continue because I’m in disbelief, i need to read to see how this story is redeemed

Penelope is a piece of work; a gentleman rescues her and she can barely say thank you, her friend is in trouble and she keeps pestering her, it should be out of concern but it just feels nosy. I hope she starts to redeem herself soon because she is ruining the story for me.

15% in and I’m not feeling it. The opening made me very sympathetic to lord Atherton and Penelope is annoying me as an interfering and childish narcissist.

“Is your heart quickening yet?”
No, and I’m at 58%. The language is contemporary and the writing basic, throwing in battles and horses do not make it historical. The characters are juvenile and I’m still not buying into how beautiful the heroine is and how gorgeous the hero is. What is the conflict in the story? I’m still trying to find out.

This is likely to be DNF. I’ve read several reviews and no one liked all those pages about sheep, I agree. I thought the story must be ending soon, but I’m less than half way, it’s a story about nothing and goes nowhere. There are many areas of conflict but they are handled so benignly that they don’t hold my interest and I held on this long because I saw so much potential. Somebody do something please!

I’ve started reading this a few times but always stop. I’d forget why I haven’t read it because I really liked the other two, so start again, get caught up in the story then bam, oh it’s the one with the hated flashback. I’m tempted because Heather Graham HR books usually worth 4 stars at least but I know I’ll will be very disappointed and have to stay away.
