No, you already showed that happening; you don't have to show it again! This is action and suspense, man; we don't need everyone's POV of the same events---except for maybe one or two of these, where it actually serves up suspense rather than frustration. {covers face with hands and breathes}

I cheated on it a couple of times, but we're back together now, taking things slow.

So here' the problem I'm having. Without the prologue or the Bing bits, this would have been a completed story a few pages ago. Now it's looking like the prologue was a lot longer than I originally thought--that it's almost two hundred pages long, say. It's great, though; many awesome elements. But damn, I feel like I drifted into the doldrums for just a bit, and I gotta wait for the current to tug me along again.

Audiobooks should have minutes rather than percentage, just sayin'. This one's not read by Ron Perlman, but I was prepared for that. I tell you what I've learned about audio-booking a series; you know the catch-you-up summations of the first book sequels tend to have? Yeah, I can't skim over/skip those with the ease reading offers. Makes me sad.

Aw. Ah, HELL, no. Eff you, book, I'm done.

NO. And that's what I get for reading based on the nostalgia around having read liked SPHERE and JURASSIC PARK back in high school. It's like...it's like---gah, save it for the review, Chy.

So this is going very slowly, but for a...good (though perhaps creepy) reason. I'm sort of having a Dexter marathon on the side and he does these voice-overs in this detached kind of present tense---like the narration of this book. So this has led to me reading this book in Dexter's voice. (Or, I guess, Michael C. Hall's voice. Whatever; it's Dexter.) And Dexter, you know, speaks rather slowly.

What, now? *points at page* I've seen this movie. It's called Mr. Stitch and stars Wil Wheaton.

If I were normal, I'd crap out right now. But the part of me that always wants to love what I'm reading is all, "Maybe, just maybe, these caricatures will actually grow into people as we go along. We'll never know if you stop now."

What? You mean "What about Peris?" is going to push me into reading the next book? And I just know he's not going to be nearly as cool (an element) as I want him to be. But I'll still read Book Two...eventually. For I am a reading masochist.

*slaps book shut and slams it down on table* I said Stop Lying! Oh my God, you really have learned nothing at all. *stomps off*

Wait. What about Peris?

*stomps back to book, grumbling*

Oh my GOD, Stop Lying! Have you learned Nothing? *rips books along binding and flings sections to opposite ends of the yard*

Okay, I didn't really do that, but I imagined it vividly. This would be the point I stopped reading if it weren't for this question, reverberating through my mind: "What about Peris?"

There are too many parallels for it to be coincidence…

There needs to be a reason we’ve written a late-nineties version of Wuthering Heights. A refocusing, an altered something-or-other, a change of perspective, a---something. And I will keep reading to see if there is. But I am wary. I am wary. Because if this is nothing but a remake, I will not be a happy reader.

I keep getting distracted by the odd thought, like, "Would you really call the clothes 'ours,' Eva? I bet all of these were bought for Addie."

But I am in love with the concept of this one. Completely and utterly fascinated.

Something's bothering me, distracting me. I swear, Joffrey was thirteen in the first book. Everyone else seems to have aged about two years, but he's still thirteen? Neat trick. It's horrible, how much this is distracting me. Frustrating me.

Last night, I came damn near to throwing the book across the room. But I couldn't let it go. The story was still there and I had to be there for it. Damn you, Martin!

Please, could someone who's been trying to get somewhere forever finally get there? There are so many.

Okay, got one little ray of hope, a few chapters after I was thinking I wasn't going to keep reading (yet did keep reading because of my husband.)

So, basically, everyone I love is currently farcked up the arse in one way or another. Makes it difficult to keep reading.

I suffer from my husband's weird hours currently, but making progress still.

I love that all those plot things I went on about "knowing" before are shown to be less certain here, and I've had it shown that there's plenty I don't know. Well played, Martin, well played.

Oops. Forgot to put the page number on that last one. Not that it matters. This says 761 pgs, my copy has 969, not counting the appedices. I'm just too lazy to change editions.

I...have mentioned how I hate prologues, yes? Perfect example, here. {deep breath} Now to start the actual book, damn you.

Mike recoiled in horror when I said I never read the prologue of the first book. He said, "You have to, to know why that one dude ran."

No, dammit, it was obvious why he ran, in the actual BOOK. Where it was more interesting. (Okay, fine, and I watched the HBO series.)

I'm in love with Riviera. Well...I'm in love with him as a character, or...the...something. It doesn't matter what way I'm in love with the concept or whatever, I'm still afraid it says bad things about me---yet I don't care.

Once my hard head realized what was going over it was *supposed* to be going over it, I got addicted. I just don't have the time to really READ.

Worse---I feel like I've been marked somehow by the fact that at least half of everything has gone over my head, a mark that fans can see and laugh at me for.

Okay, I really dig the "grimy tough-punk thing" (Asym's words). But I feel dumb. I feel like half of everything---at least---has flown straight over my head.

Aw, I stopped because it was too much Terry Pratchett and not enough Neil Gaiman (says the chick who's read one Gaiman book.) I love Pratchett, I do. I was just wanting more Gaiman after American Gods. I'll get back to this when I'm over that.

How can I NOT read a book the begins with the storming of a castle?
