Putting this book on hold for a while because it has genuinely put me in a reading slump with how unenjoyable it is to read. The idea has potential, however there are so many rookie writing errors that I don’t really understand what’s going on any more.

Main feeling so far is disappointed. The idea has potential but there are a few things really letting it down.

…to escape and his hatred for war and death. He seems to have had an excellent time planning the parties for the Officer’s as well as taking advantage of the staff parties, luxurious estate and access to high quality alcohols. I’m glad he found joy in those moment where he could instead of being in constant turmoil. Also doing a lot of reading and learning French!

Currently on page 30/161 of Hopes and Ideals by Emil Poidinger (step Grandfather). So far he has covered his childhood and family upbringing, his experiences as a young teen in Czechoslovakia and the start of Hitler’s take over, his ‘call up’ into the German airforce, him re-writing his oath to Hitler to be an oath for his homeland, his transfer to manage an officer’s estate and overall his….

Unless you’re a 12 year old, don’t bother. There is a reason I forgot I read this

I’m also currently reading my step- grandfather’s WW2 memoir. It’s heavy stuff so I’ve only read 27/161 A4 pages but it’s beautifully written. I only wish I had known him as an adult because he definitely lived a full life. I’ve so far learned a little about his upbringing in Czechoslovakia and now I’m reading about his training in the German army. This is truely a gift to be able to read.

On pause whilst I read The giver, my step-grandad’s manuscript/autobiography and listen to the audiobook of empire of the vampire (to reacquaint myself with the story).

I stopped reading this to read SOR. And now I’m almost completely lost and I don’t know what’s going

My curiosity is peaked~
