It’s started off slowly but at the same time not. I have some characters context already which is great. I guess I’ll see why they “killed” this woman because so far she seems cool and they all seem to look up to her. Right now I’m thinking that “killing” her is a metaphor that they’re using, but we will see.

So far, the book and the movie are very different, and I don’t mind it. I try not to compare books to their movies usually, but I’m getting so much added context to both Finch and Violet. They’re both so different in the book. I love Finch so far, he’s not presenting completely the same in the movie.

Wow. I have severely misjudged this book on the beginning. I will finish it very soon, but I now see why I didn’t get much of Finny in his chapter. I’d like to think it’s because he never truly saw how great of a person he was. Hi father is gathering stories from the people that knew him, and I think that’s what this book is. My final review will be longgg.

It’s taking me unnecessarily long to read this book, and I think it’s because I have it. Every single page has Autumn’s name mentioned, and I feel like I only know Finny through Autumn’s eyes . I don’t know Finny as himself from his perspective yet, but I’m giving it a chance. I did get some context on Sylvie, so that’s good development there. I’m hoping to see more about Finny outside of Autumn.

Autumn has finally acknowledged (to herself) that she loves Finny, but yet no moves have been made and that’s so frustrating for me. It’s clear that Finny loves her too, if she would just make a move then I’m certain he’d at least think about it. I really don’t like the idea of her being a mom and not writing, it’s not her. Jamie is trying to make her fit into his dreams rather than combine their dreams.

So far, I know Autumn loves Phineas and she’s only trying to trick herself into loving Jamie because he claims to love her. Jamie is pushing her to give up on her dream of being a writer, and instead being his wife and child bearer. She couldn’t have expressed it better than me when she was referring to him being up sex too early “he (phineas) wouldn’t have asked about sex. Not yet.”

I knew she was going to cut and I was still so disappointed when she did. Riley was always going to be the cause of that, but I’m glad she got to spend time in a comfortable house with people who cared for and helped her. I really hope she gets help by the end of the book. I really want her to be well and not have to feel the way she does forever. I know it won’t be perfect, but it could at least get better.

It’s sad to see her try to fix a man that she could never possibly fix. Riley is 27 and she’s barely 18, but because she wants to feel loved she’s leaving herself and what she wants undone for him. I relate to her heavily in this instance. It’s sad and beautiful to want love so bad you’d leave yourself undone. They’ve seemingly broken up and that’s in her best interest.

So far it’s not exactly what I expected. I thought when we said “this generation’s Girl Interrupted” that meant we’d spent the whole book in the psych ward, but she’s left, and she got a job. I’m still unclear of what exactly happened at the underpass. I’m not sure if she was raped or almost raped. I understand her, I understand not wanting to speak in fear of sounding stupid.
