I’m too far through this to not finish it but I’m not enjoying it as much as I expected. It’s definitely a great telling of this story that highlights the lost words of one whose story has been told and modified by many others. However, I’m a tad bored and not in love with the writing style 😭

This is potentially the second most hooked I have been on a book this year. I will be finishing it today for sure. I did not expect so much exploration of who this character is and the life that she is leading, while knowing how this story ends. It is also interesting to see that since mythology has so many telling of her story that’s elements differ, I still do not know exactly what will happen

Oooh I like this! I’ve found that most of the mythology retellings that I have read, I haven’t enjoyed as much because I know the story already. However, with this one I am left constantly guessing where her story will go, and completely unsure of who to trust or who is the villain. I love the appreciation for Black beauty that is woven into this book as well. Really enjoying it so far and I’m hooked!

This reminds me somewhat of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo as we watch this growing media presence guided by looks and having to age far too fast at such a young age. Like in that book, I am wondering where the stories leads but staying engaged in the journey there

Ugh so good! Real people with real issues. A study in compassion. A division that isn’t just communication issues but based on the reality of people having complicated paths and different ways of interacting with the world. I’m devouring this one and I can already tell it’s going on my favorites shelf. Side note: Justin and Emma will be nominees for my favorite characters this year!

I’m going to say something kind of wild… Abby Jimenez may be joining the sole other author I place in the S-Tier status (Shirlene Obuobi) because this is eating so far

I am eating this up so far. The inclusion of academia and navigating graduate school, a profound delivery of the intersectional lens, and getting into the mind of a serial killer makes the story so interesting to me. This one is giving 5 star predictions 🤭 I’m excited to keep reading

When a book hits while you are actively fighting a natural disaster, you know it’s good

Ugh I’m so intrigued. Everyone’s stories are so interesting and I’m invested in each character we’ve explored so far. Everyone has motive and everyone has something they are trying to escape. I’m intrigued by the name of the book as well. It makes me think that there is a collaborative element to what happened Thanksgiving 1954. So excited for the next chapter but I can’t read it yet bc of book club 😭

Okay I’m starting to be very interested in what is going on. There are so many POVs and the writing style allows you to still question and have uncertainty even when it comes directly from the source. This is the kind of book that you kind of have to create a character map for to keep up but I’m really intrigued and the author reminds you of what you may have missed. In conclusion, I want answers!

I can’t say I’m invested yet. Definitely intrigued though.

I’m liking this so far! It’s cute and pretty new and unique. Had a meeting cancelled today so I got to start this and I’m liking it and excited to keep reading!

This is really good so far. I love the usage of different povs in this and the way it being set in the past doesn’t change the way the characters are speaking much. I am really liking the main characters. I also love the small details like the recipes included, the personification of the house, and the foreshadowing. I’m excited to keep reading.

Wow. “There are no kind masters” really sums up the villain of this story. Everyone who enslaves, profits off of pain, and colonizes no matter if they see themselves as the hero. So much is going on in the story at the moment and I have no idea how it will end but this is a great read.

Okay I changed my mind. This was off to a slow start but it’s actually starting to get better. I like how romance is a side plot and we are really just getting to watch the FMC heal from her past by challenging herself.

I am really enjoying the complex integration of real history with magical elements and what is clearly a commentary on using the oppressed to help the oppressor become more powerful. It’s certainly a deeper fantasy. Instead of reading about some far away land, the injustices happening here are the ones that happen in our world. It doesn’t quite feel fantastical rather a slightly changed version of our world now.

Umm okay… it’s kinda giving dookie so far ngl. Everything is happening far too quickly. It could have used at least 3-5 more chapters before any of the events take place. It’s very insta-lovey and overly corny so far. I’m making quick pace of it so I probably will finish it and hopefully like it more by the end but yeah so far 😕 I bought this for the cover so this is what I get ig 😭

I’m not sure if I’m liking it. The ‘ instead of “ for quotes and pacing are not what I’m used to (US vs. UK writing styles). There are also a few grammatical errors that aren’t attributable to writing differences. The humor doesn’t quite come across for me. It’s a really cool concept and gives a 2000s movie that would star Katherine Heigl so I’m hopeful I’ll like it in the end!

I’m really liking it so far. The writing style is very captivating even when nothing is really happening. I love the way that the action is spread out throughout it instead of at specific moments. It is reminiscent of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo in that I am interested early on but I don’t actually know where the story is leading me yet.

The banter in this is just so good. A real yearning-forward read for sure! It’s not stellar or groundbreaking but I am really enjoying it so far!

Everything that is happening is very interesting but sometimes just feels a bit long and confusing. I’m really hoping it will all tie together in the end

Okay this is really good so far! Normally with books based so heavily in tropes it’s a bit corny (which there’s definitely a time and place for but now isn’t it!) but this one instead isn’t cheesy. I find that I love the way this book is doing the academic rivals trope. I have an early day tomorrow and that is literally the only reason I am putting down this book!

It’s starting to amp up now! It is still a bit slower than I expected but I’m hoping to love this in the end!

Should’ve seen that coming but I fear I must finish this tonight. I’m thoroughly invested. Leigh Bardugo is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors

This is EATING so far! I am so particular when it comes to fantasy but this is it! There’s all the same elements from books that I didn’t like but it’s all just done way better and more captivating. I unfortunately read Six of Crows first but I’m so glad I was introduced to Leigh Bardugo and I loved that one so much I got the whole Shadow and Bone series (which I foresee finishing quite quickly)

There is nothing I like about this. I’m fighting to not DNF bc I already have this month. Putting this one down for a while I fear…
