I usually love T Kingfisher but am finding this book kind of annoying so far. I’ll give it a few more chapters at least 🥲

Phew, this is a stressful read at times. The romance is beautifully written. The story in general is beautifully written, with a good balance of plot tension and character development. Sometimes I really like Joan’s character, and other times she seems too perfect and it’s a bit much. Also, Barb is the absolute worst and I am so ready for Joan to fully tell her off- the impact on her and Francis is awful.

Love this so far! Beautifully written, interesting characters and historical setting. Despite mostly focusing on teen characters, it feels more like literary fiction than YA. I also loved the inclusion of the mom’s perspective when she was younger, and am hoping there will be more intergenerational viewpoint chapters-especially from her dad, who is also a compelling character.

This is very fun & funny so far. It would be even better if it were gay, lol. Is there anything similar that’s wlw??

I’m seriously debating whether to finish this. It’s beauty written, and I appreciate the themes of nationalism, tyranny, and colonialism, and rewriting history to suit those in power. But I’m having a hard time connecting to either main character or buying their romance. I got to the point where they’re retelling the same events from her perspective, and I realized that I just don’t care or feel invested.

Finally started getting good after 14 hours 😭 an hour & 20 min left. I had to take a few week break because the middle drags so much. Maybe I’ll feel differently after finishing but throughout most of it I have felt that it would probably be a 4-5 star read for me if it were cut by like, a 3rd. It didn’t need to be this long at all.

I’ve been wanting to read this forever and I really love it so far. There are a LOT of perspective shifts that happen in the middle of scenes, which is a bit jarring, but it hasn’t made it hard to follow imo, I just need to fully pay attention (listening to the audiobook).

Oh man I am trying so hard. 50% through and while beautifully written, it has been kind of a slog to get through. Really repetitive, pretty much no plot, and I couldn’t even consider it character driven because there’s no character development or complexity. Idk. I might have to give up soon.

Okay, lmao @ thinking veterinarians, horticulturists & someone managing a whole ass nature center aren’t ambitious. Felicity is deeply unrelatable, but I do feel for her. Also, the consequences the villain got were incredibly mild & unsatisfying in proportion to the harm he caused. I’m actually mad about that. What a pos.

This is my first book by Natasha Pulley and it’s honestly a lot weirder than I expected from the description- I think it’s something about the narrative style. It’s kind of dryly comedic even though many the actual events are disturbing. I’m into it so far though, so hopefully that means I’m coming out of my reading slump (gave up on 2 books ~halfway through this week)!

Thoughts so far:
-this book is kind of a hot mess. The writing quality varies between pretty decent and completely cringey to a laughing out loud extent
-the world building is super interesting and intriguing but the general horniness of the 3 main characters takes a front seat and doesn’t feel earned or believable
-will Sachi develop a personality? Tbd
