Luan has a bit of an interesting arc going on right now which did have a little of the necessary build up but im disappointed in the rest of the build up, especially with certain characters and choices.

Ok, so that was an interesting 50 pages. They get blasted by garafins, almost lose and then use kites to blast the garafins. Cool. Was NOT expecting Luan to appear out of nowhere being mentioned barely beforehand. Cool, I guess. But how the FUCK did he get his eyes and tongue gouged out. And Zomis FATHER??

ok, WTF is going on, wdym Thema just gets nerfed out of the blue for disobeying? Because of the weak excuse of needed an opt out? Literally what is happening to all the build up lol. What happened to Zomi?? Literally the part I was looking forward too was nerfed for shitty wars and lazy writing

Things are progressing, plot points ive been looking forward too havent been much. Execution continues to be meh, but it isnt bad

For all that build up towards a potential rebellion it ended fairly abruptly lol. Otherwise im a fan of the set up, it just has yet to be properly tied together

Lots of newly introduced exposition, some that feels natural to others. The story has definitely picked up, lots of talk about politics. Previously there was a bit of a lack of internal dialouge but its gotten a lot better. I can tell the author is more invested in this part of the book.

Not the biggest fan of how quick we were to move on from Zomis quest with Luan. I think that we couldve fit more within the 200 chapters to establish a stronger connection with the two.

So far it has a fairly intriguing political word. There's so many characters it becomes hard to keep track of. But besides that I find the characters interesting enough. Definitely more opportunities to give them stronger characterization though.

The book itself definitely has a slow pace but im already quite fond of the characters. There's an intriguing set of plot being set up so. Cant wait to read more ig lol

Very intriguing start, the writing is immersive and the prose isnt half bad. I like being in the perspective of the kids, Thera & Phyro and what not. The characters seem very likeable, with something promising for the future plot

So many broad details, like tell me why I had to know Greenblatt wipes his hands and leaves dead skin everywhere like c'mon. I dont need to know his hygienic habits

I do wish the perspectives actually honed more into the individuality of the hackers instead of a general scale. The writing at times feels like theyre buffing word count do it drags. But there is times where the writing excels and engages me, and the character transitions have been (mostly) smooth and pleasant to read.

The whole operation on Pengos part didnt go anywhere and definitely seemed less competent than Kevin. Everyone had their own goals. Less interesting but still

Quite funny that Mitnick gets betrayed by his friend, doesnt seem like he was too much of a good guy those last days. Im really liking this second part involving the new "MC" Pengo, feels more relatable

Ive never seen a man get into so many frankly useless shenanigans to boost his own ego lol

Characters go on these painful monologues like I can see the attempt at characterization but they have no motivations its so BORINGGG

Some of the characters monologing is just awful to read and none of the characters (especially the knights) are hard to distinguish from one another. The story at times becomes hard to follow, with a lack of balance between the two. The reveal for the whole memory mystery was lackluster and I felt nothing. Pretty much the only time they mention it was the reveal.

I enjoy the moment where they try to give Beatrice character about "how quickly she trusted a polite soldier" so this doesnt make much sense when Axl too had felt bad, trusting him. There was no build up, AND Axl contradicts himself. And it seems like theyre giving Wistan, the soldier more characterization for them. And the whole mystery with memory doesnt get brought up neatly as often as it should.

Things havent changed much. Them going to a village only to have people attempt killing them and be completely fine the next day?? The explanation was pitiful, and it just so happens the ONE soldier can speak their language. It really feels like a weak excuse not to write their characters. There's several awkward silence when the soldiers join them. Where is the characterization??

The setting is interesting but its just.. Boring, like I can see the attempt at characterization and the over arching motivation but I feel them as characters are lacking internal motivation. This seems to be an issue with a lot of books, the faulty execution

The fact that Winston gets arrested feels a bit lackluster to me, the story itself is pretty simple. However his interaction with O'brien does give it a lot more meaning and sells me on the idea.

"Winston realized his lack of motivations" thanks for saying it for us George! Okay, so it's clear that George is hinting of some awareness of the misogyny in the tone, and some of it is clever. But my point really stands. Some of his word use takes you out of the story and the character development and conversational flow feels surface level. There's some really stand out lines but the overall education is lacking

Winston and Julia feel more like symbols to me than actual characters. Some of their comversation and characterization feels rushed or jarring. Some concepts are fun though like visiting antique places and talking to the old folk. Wish the characterization was stronger but eh

I like the concept of pneumatic tubes and the ministry, the possibility for world building is really intriguing. Like how the hell are they erasing people's memories huh?? The concept itself isnt crazy though. The book is ahead of its time, but the whole government surveillance doesnt sweep me off my feet

The random POV change smack dab at the end of the book was so unnecessary. Im not nearly as attached to the characters and now it just feels like a drag reading it. It feels discombobulated too? Not a fan after reading a 600 page book for characters i was alr attached too.
