It intrigues me so much how Winston is literally infatuated with O’brien when he is the one torturing him. It’s giving stockholm syndrome, but I also think it’s a way of showing how much the lies and propaganda change a person’s way of thinking, especially when they don’t want to experience pain. Smith’s perspective makes us doubt how we view O’brien and I think that’s so cool.
