Listening to the audiobook bc I am impatient. Pray for me (these are better seen and not heard unfortch)

Was literally one minute from DNFing bc this book can only go one way to appease me for all my time wasted on this series and it was looking grim iykwim but I'm intrigued again

I cannot be objective about this book.

It is consuming me and I knew it would. Genuinely could not tell you if I would recommend this one or the fic more so far. Probably this one just bc the fic had some iffy content, but Manacled was soul-altering and I think about it often.

I am sooooooo sick of them oh my gosh. Why is this book so ridiculously long? 35 hours for an overwrought "slowburn" romantasy is psychotic and the next one is longer??? This woman needs to be stopped.

Unfortunately everyone in this book is so slow on the uptake that they make me want to bang my head against a wall. Stop dumbing characters down to build false tension/draw out books. Smh

This is already stupid. I wonder if I would ever have finished even the first book if I had read it instead of listening. This may be a DNF if I cannot muscle through how much I hate Grim and how bad the writing is.

My hold expired with less than 100 pages left and I'm not happy about it. Much much better than I remembered, as frustrated as I am to say anything nice about this series.

this book is so jarring to listen to after having read Yesteryear bc what do you mean this actually happened to someone? and this is not fiction? and the US should probably have a standardized history requirement for college admission???

some ADVANCED yearning and anxious attachment and self-loathing in here and that speaks to me

I am deeply afraid that the story about the 6 y/o girl loving a 16 y/o boy at the beginning will have been foreshadowing and I can imagine NO WORSE REASON FOR UNREQUITED LOVE

I love Charlotte Bronte bc it grounds me to see my own emotions reflected in characters written almost 200 years ago. The universality of human experience and feeling and love astounds me, and this book, like Jane Eyre, delivers on that count. Lucy Snowe is a fascinating narrator.

Defo has a lot of untranslated French dialogue in it, so be warned.

I did not remember every single character in this series being a chronically unobservant, smooth-brained, obnoxious, painfully unfunny teenager. Geez. This would 100% be a DNR if I didn't kind of care about how the increasingly obvious plot pans out.
