Questioning what we’re taught doesn’t mean automatically rejecting it. Sometimes examination changes our minds; sometimes it strengthens what we already believed.

That’s part of what I want One Opinion in 8 Billion to encourage: question, examine, consider different perspectives, then reach your own conclusion.

I can give you my opinion. The final opinion should be yours.

What does fairness really mean when everyone can’t receive the same outcome?

If one person waited longest but another has greater need, should equal rules always win?

Perhaps fairness isn’t simply treating everyone identically. The harder challenge is deciding when different circumstances justify different treatment.

A thought from One Opinion in 8 Billion.

We often focus on who is to blame when something goes wrong. Accountability matters—but if the same problem keeps returning under different people, perhaps we should question the system itself.

Changing the person may solve one failure. Changing the system may prevent the next hundred.

A thought from One Opinion in 8 Billion and Ethical Systems Engineering.

One passage I keep returning to is the idea that strength should not only be measured by the ability to win conflict, but by the ability to prevent it. Lasting progress requires restraint, diplomacy and the courage to resolve problems before they become destructive. Perhaps the greatest victories are the wars that never have to be fought.

One idea I keep returning to is the importance of intellectual humility. Not having enough evidence to prove something is not the same as having evidence that disproves it. There should always be room between blind belief and automatic dismissal. Sometimes the most accurate position is simply: we don’t know yet.

I’ve often found that the questions we choose to ask reveal as much about us as the answers we seek. Curiosity has the power to challenge assumptions, deepen understanding and open doors that certainty keeps closed. Sometimes the most important step isn’t finding the right answer—it’s asking the right question

One of the ideas I return to throughout my writing is that progress begins with curiosity. We don’t grow by clinging to certainty; we grow by being willing to question our assumptions, test our beliefs and accept new evidence. Sometimes the most important question we can ask ourselves isn’t, “Am I right?” but, “What can I still learn?”

One idea that continues to shape my thinking is that every system creates incentives, and those incentives influence behaviour. When the same problems keep appearing, perhaps the question isn’t simply who is at fault, but whether the system is rewarding the outcomes we actually want. Sometimes lasting change begins by redesigning the system, not blaming the people.

Questions have always fascinated me more than answers. A single well-asked question can challenge assumptions, change perspectives or begin a conversation that lasts a lifetime. If you could ask every person on Earth one question—and everyone had to answer honestly—what would you ask?

One of the reasons I wrote One Opinion in 8 Billion was to encourage respectful discussion and critical thinking. The book isn’t about telling people what to think—it’s about asking questions, exploring different perspectives and challenging assumptions. If it inspires even one meaningful conversation, then it has achieved part of its purpose.

🎙️ PODCAST REFLECTION | #006

The search for truth begins with better questions. People can look at the same evidence and reach different conclusions, which is why I value critical thinking, intellectual humility and a willingness to change my mind when stronger evidence appears. What quality do you think matters most when searching for the truth?

One lesson that has shaped both my writing and my life is that changing your mind isn’t a weakness—it often means you’ve learned something new. Curiosity and a willingness to question our own beliefs are essential if we want to keep growing. If these ideas interest you, One Opinion in 8 Billion is available on Amazon.

⚙️ ETHICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING | #005
One principle at the heart of Ethical Systems Engineering is that strong systems don’t fear constructive criticism—they improve because of it. Progress depends on being willing to question, review and refine our ideas as better evidence emerges. If these ideas interest you, One Opinion in 8 Billion is available on Amazon.

🌍 ONE WORLD | #005
One idea that continues to shape both One Opinion in 8 Billion and One World One Chance is that where we’re born should never determine our value as human beings. None of us chooses our starting point in life, but together we can help create a world with greater dignity and opportunity for all. If you’re interested in these ideas, Part 1 is available on Amazon.

📖 FROM THE BOOK | #004
One idea explored throughout One Opinion in 8 Billion is that the quality of our future depends on the quality of the questions we ask today. Answers change, evidence evolves, but curiosity drives progress. If you’d like to explore these ideas further, Part 1 is available on Amazon. I always welcome thoughtful feedback and discussion.

⚙️ ETHICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING | #002
Every system creates incentives, and incentives shape behaviour. One principle behind Ethical Systems Engineering is that if we want better outcomes, we should first ask what behaviours our systems are actually rewarding. Improving people often begins with improving systems. The philosophy continues to evolve, and I welcome constructive feedback.

📖 FROM THE BOOK | No. 3
One idea I return to throughout One Opinion in 8 Billion is that changing your mind isn’t weakness—it’s often a sign of growth. The strongest ideas should never fear scrutiny, and neither should we. If a better argument or new evidence changes my perspective, I see that as progress. Part 1 is available on Amazon.

📖 FROM THE BOOK | No. 2
One of the central ideas in One Opinion in 8 Billion is that questioning an idea doesn’t mean rejecting it. Often, it means understanding it more deeply. I believe strong ideas don’t fear scrutiny—they grow because they’ve been tested. If you’d like to explore more, Part 1 is now available on Amazon.

Hi everyone! I’m starting a new series inspired by my book journey.

📖 FROM THE BOOK | #001
“Every opinion is shaped by knowledge, experience, upbringing, culture and circumstance.”

Before judging an opinion, perhaps we should first understand how it was formed.

Have you ever changed a strongly held belief after learning something new?
