I'm liking how Sage doesn't care that she is hurt and isn't bothered by the pain just so she can play volleyball. As Sage is putting on her sweats she notices her knee was "stiffening" but didn't want to ask for ice because her Dad would make her see "all the specialist in town" and "keep her from practicing" (Carpenter 13). I'm not understanding why she doesn't want help so she is not in any pain.
