A reread after Seventh Veil of Salome. Looking forward to revisiting this book.

It's like someone took the phrases "aw shucks" and "have a blessed day" and somehow made them into a caricature of a Norman Rockwell painting but with Jesus.

I feel hoodwinked.

A book club selection. I can already tell that this is not my kind of book.

This book isn't bad, but it is often very hard to read.

You know how there's a point in Harry Potter when the whole thing is suddenly about how Harry has a crush on Cho Chang but Cho has a thing with Cedric Diggory and Harry becomes very annoying and you just want him to get back to wizard stuff?

Well here we are.

Well, it's not a feel-good read, but it is interesting and maybe even compelling so far.

I'm too old for this book.

Why oh why is this book so long?

Rarely have I been less enthused about a book club pick, but I'm going in.

Taking a break to go thank my old socks for their service and then discard them.

Two thoughts so far: 1. Kim Gordon is not a great writer. 2. I am really glad that I am not Kim Gordon.

This book is one of the most overly self-important pieces of drivel I have ever read. I have been reading it for almost two months because it literally puts me to sleep every 10 pages. High schoolers will read this in the future and it pains me to think this.

This was going well and then it got slow. Hoping it goes somewhere in the last 100 pages.

Not sure how I'm feeling about this. On one hand I'm reading, and reading, and reading, and I feel like there's a lack of narrative tension. On the other hand it reminds me of Paul Auster ca. Moon Palace, and that's not a bad thing,. I will finish it but I kind of suspect that (like the Goldfinch) I will ultimately be a little disappointed.

I upgrade her to "horrible monster."

What a very extremely unpleasant little girl.

Reading this on the train this morning, I thought, wow, this book is never going to end....but I will be sad when it does.

Oh thank God. I let my Prime membership expire, and Amazon took this book away from me. I am now free. FREE!

I am reading a truly remarkable number of lousy books this year. This is one of them. On the bright side, all this tedious exposition is really teaching me about legal terminology.

Back in high school, I learned that one of the keys to fiction writing is to know the iceberg but just tell the tip. This author would have benefited from Mrs. Hover's AP Prep English 9.

Truly appalling dialogue and characters who stubbornly refuse to act like real people in any way. On the other hand, I'm holding out for the promise of sunken treasure, and the fact that at least every two pages I get a flash of that scene from Arrested Development...you know the one...YOU'RE A CROOK CAPTAIN HOOK! something something piiiiiiiiiirate!

It was free on Amazon and I wanted something sort of mindless. I am already regretting this decision.
