I can visualize when "the monster changed the shape of its hands even further, making the nest of leaves Conor was lying on even more comfortable" (Ness, page 191). The most vivid sense is touch, because we can almost feel the softness of the leaves. Patrick Ness uses this sensory detail to show Conor's exhaustion and the monster's strange comfort.
