The style of this book is formal, I would characterize the tone as informative, the writer does not use humor or satire, there is harsh language used in this book and it shows how time was back then.

I think the authors goal is to highlight the history of the events that happened in the south, more specifically Mississippi, and how those brutal events were sort of blurred over time. He tells us about how frightened the students are when learning the nature of how African Americans are treated in the south, that could be an obstacle by making some students back out in fear.

I think that Bruce Watson is qualified to give writing advice, he has written for many prestigious publications and many other books.

In the beginning of the book it talks about how this summer changed the way African Americans were treated in the south and the importance of the events that took place in that summer.

I chose to read this book because I think it could show a lot of things that don't get taught.

Recently and times before I feel like our community unifies in the face of loss. When something tragic happens I feel like our community is really good at supporting each other through hard times.

I think the purpose of putting that song in the book is to show that even though the characters can see their future, they cant change it so they might as well just live their lives and enjoy them.

If I had a fight like that with someone I care about I would listen to what they had to say but in the end do what I think is best.

If I knew I was going to die my main priorities would be to spend all the time I could with my friends and family and to do the things that I enjoy.

I think that short stringers are similar to other minority groups and the strings have made a whole new category of discrimination. I think they should fight for their lives because even though they have a shorter life span they are still people.

If my string was already short then I would jump in front of a bullet for someone that I cared about. Realistically, I don't think I would be able to do that for someone I don't even know.

If I had a child that hasn't looked at their string I would not look at it. I feel that their string is their business only and just because they're my kid doesn't mean I can look at it.

I don't like Anthony I think he's very dishonest and overall not a good person. "when Anthony has casually mocked him, framed his very existence as an accident."

Hank is angry that Anika looked at his string and he doesn't trust her anymore. He's having trouble accepting that he has a shorter string.

I do believe in miracles, not the kind of miracles where you can get wishes granted but the kind where amazing things do happen by the will of God.

This event will most likely change Hanks life drastically, the effect that this might have on society will likely make everyone freak out about their strings and how they might die causing more upset.

If I had a long string I would not test it because if I did something that could seriously hurt myself I might survive but live the rest of my life in a coma or paralyzed.

Maura is much more upset about the news of the strings being real than Amie is, Amie is more amazed by the strings than anything. Maura seems to be trying to help herself out by going to the support group but still seems frightened. Amie chose not to open her box but it says that she was thrilled and thought it was wondrous.

From reading to page 28 I can tell that Ben has a little bit of a better mindset about this situation. Nina refuses to believe that the strings are real and shes a little bit in denial about it. Ben on the other hand is clearly trying to come out the other side and still make a good life even with the strings.

I am enjoying the book so far, I found it surprising at the end of Ben's chapter where we get to see Maura and Ben cross paths. I wonder if they will become friends or not.

If I got a box like this I would not open it. I would rather lie my life not knowing when it is going to end then just waiting for the day that It will.
