They are at market day, trying to escape town by paying off the mongers (the people trading). They are going to spend their beetles, or money on food and water in order to survive. Their orphanage care taker, who they believe is trying to harvest their organs, is looking for them.

They had just finished picking their potatoes for the day, receiving their rations, but there were a lot of people who didn't pick enough, but luckily Leonardo, and his sister Gabi both received two potatoes as rations.
