Every year or so, around this time, I see asks for “scariest book” and without fail, this one comes up. So every year or so, around this time, I think *I’m going to read this—finally*. Finally has arrived and I’ve cracked the book open and began reading. No strategy. No one time through then footnotes. I don’t know. But I hope it isn’t hype. Or all hype, anyway.

Thank you to St Martin’s press for sending me this. When Evan is in town, alllll other books go on the shelf for a bit. orphanX takes priority. So excited!

Obdurate. Word of the day. And according to this book, word of the “hundredth mention”.

Maybe it’s just a snag with listening to the book rather than reading it…but, the author really (REALLY!!!) needs to employ varying dialog tags.

Says. Says. Says. Says. Says. Every sentence. Even when only two people are talking. Says. She says. He says. Says.

It became grating. So grating I’m deciding whether or not to DNF.

Perfect book for the icy cold Colorado days we’ve been having lately. -23 windchill, a cup of tea, some blankets, dogs and THIS book on my lap is fitting! Can’t wait to charge the kindle☺️

I have never read fanfic. I don’t know what to expect. But, the buzz around this has me curious. So it goes…

Uh oh. I feel that sense of dread creeping in to my cells. Not dread from the scary/tense story. Dread from the flat delivery, silly dialogue and tell rather than show.

Loved the first maid book.

This sequel is (side eye::bombastic side eye)

Apparently “vampires heal quickly,” or so I’ve been told. And told. And told. And told.

Ordered all the way from the UK and taking forrrever to get here, I’m finally digging in!🙌

Not saying this to mean I am not finding the book interesting…but, has anyone else found the writing style here a bit 🤔 jarring? Faltering in places…zip zipping in others?

I’ve been missing Evan of Orphan X and Eddie Flynn is the character I didn’t know I needed. ⭐️

At this point I’m dearly hoping that the author doesn’t also start the next dozen chapters with “Wylie” as she did the last dozen+…c’mon mix it up! It’s getting annoying.

…and so begins another “brain crawl” where I set out to answer a question I’ve asked myself. Looks to be a good place to start. 😉

How is this all going to come together!? 😱

There is something with the formatting of this book that is causing me major eye strain. Compressed. Narrow borders. Spacin. And cheap paper with bleed through. All combining to jack with my eyeballs. May end up DNF.

Can someone just tell me how this ends? I’m bored to effing tears.

The struggle to maintain my concentration has ZERO to do with the quality of this book and everything to do with the state of the world. This normally would be a one-sitting read for me. Despite that, I’m picking at it. 😫
