After 10 pages I knew this was going to be a 5 star book for me.
Fabulously written, this retelling of the Cinderella fairytale from the perspective of the stepmother puts the classic tropes on its head: happily ever after, salvation through marriage, riches as the aspirational and liberating ideal, goodness ensuring a fair future.
Bonus points for the interesting falconry masterfully woven into the narrative.
