What a magnificent book. All the better for being convincingly set amongst real events. My favourite book this year so far.

Loving this book. The portrayal of village life is so accurate, and it is gently amusing, some lovely turns of phrase and acidic observations.
Better than 'Offshore' which won the Booker, imho

The first expedition has just finished, but noone seems impressed despite all that was achieved. I'm amazed that they took ships powered solely by wind into the Antarctic pack ice.
