Really loving this book so far. One big clever analogy for the way we rationalize staying in situations that are causing us harm. Might have to get a copy of this for my self.

Really enjoying this book. The perspective of Slavic folk horror is so intertwined with real life horrors and generational traumas. Famine. War. Poverty. The things we do to survive. The stories we make up to cope.

I thoroughly enjoy reading translated works. They are challenging without being fantasy (this one is a little of both). It’s a different culture with different names, phrases, words, history, etc. It gives you a new perspective to events.

This book is really interesting so far bridging both future and the past into one narrative. It feels surprisingly current.

Ehhhh solid concept but the writer continues to shift perspectives going between third and second person randomly. It feels like they weren’t sure how they wanted to write the book but they had the story in mind.

Nonstop STRESSED the whole book. At the same time it is so fantastical and otherworldly and very fun. I appreciate a horror book not rooted in any real sense of reality.

If I ever see a puppet again I’ll lose it. Kakawewe!

Every chapter I read I am pissed off AND sad AND anxious. Bravo Grady.

The way this book is starting off has me in my feelings. When your parents pass unexpectedly what to do you do? When you return home after being away for so long how do you feel? Homes can feel haunted by memories and those feelings heightened with emotions.

So. Many. Dolls.
