So excited to start book 2! But then immediately realized it’s going to be multiple perspectives in this one…sigh. I was so happy the last one was single perspective.

Oh my goodness the ending of Book III was so good and I did not see it coming!

It’s almost halfway into the book, where’s Robin’s character development? The lack of which is progressively turning him from tolerable to annoying. I know he is supposed to represent a certain type of people—the normal people, but come on.

I can totally see how the style of the scene transition in this book would make it very convenient for tv show or anime show adaptations. Or even a video game. Some scene starts with sentence like “A cloud of dust erupts from beneath me as my body skids backwards along the paved stone”. Many scenes end with the protagonist falling asleep, and many start with the protagonist waking up. Many scenes feel quest-y.

The pace has picked up quite a bit leading up to and after Book II!

I was so excited when I first started reading this book, as I love that you can tell the author is passionate and enthusiastic about her work. The FOOTNOTES! But after a few days of struggle, I bitterly realized that this is going to be a very slow read for me. I don’t know how to explain it, but it feels like the author is talking to herself, not to the audience. I somehow feel alienated from the story.
