The information contained and collected in this novel is impressive.The author's organization of this novel makes it a Slog. It's possible I just don't connect with his style. As a reader you are jumping all around easter europe, ussr, and even timelines. I just feel like I have to do a lot of work as a reader to keep track of way more than necessary. Also the first 1/4 is very repetitive.
