“I don’t like knowing people in the context of things. oh that’s the person I work out with. that’s the person. I’m in a book club with. that’s the person I did the show with. because once the context ends, so does the friendship. I yearn to know the people I love deeply and intimately without context —without boxes and I yearn for them to know me that way too.”

Liking it so far. A lot. Really interested in the evolution of the word Saint. Seems like it could be problematic in conversations among those of different denominations.

Okay he’s finally saying something I can get behind. His explanation for suffering is well done. Now he is going to tie antidepressants into that… not sure how that will go.

When I’m reading this book, I really like reading this book. It’s very inspiring. when I’m not reading this book. I don’t really remember what I’ve read in this book.

I think I’m almost halfway through this book- I am seriously bothered by the attacks made on marijuana in this book. I’ll be interested to see what he does with the rest of the book. I don’t understand how he can call alcohol nutritious, and ignore the medicinal benefits of THC/ CBD. Not really sure how he’s not mentioning alcohol is technically a toxin that can harm nearly every cell in the body.

My loan expired so they took the book back. I was a fan of how he encouraged being an apprentice of Christ now. It did seem to walk a very protestant line though…

Walks a very fine line… I really like his point about becoming an actual follower or apprentice of Christ in modernity. However… my audio book expired and they took it back. Wants a major fan, but it had some good points.

Terribly insightful and exactly what I’m into. A touch of biology, a lot of psychology and real life application. The subject matter is raw enough to grab your attention but not horrifically graphic.
