“ Christian Nationalism and White supremacy are as connected as a burning cross in front of that American flag.”

April Ajoy, does not hold back!

I think I’m starting to feel a bit sick reading this. Nothing about April Ajoy, I can assure you, but I never fully realized how pervasive Christian Nationalism was in the United States. I’ve just gotten to the chapter on White Supremacy and whilst not surprising, the sheer expansion of the things people did ‘in the name of the lord’ is stomach churning.

The more I read about the actual quotes from Jesus from the various text, the more I see the notion behind “Canon Jesus is better than Fandom Jesus.”

The banter between Luzia and Santagel is top notch. It’s giving me Kaz vibes on both sides.

I’m sorry, Wilson, what gave you the right to make that line so raw?

“My friend Patroclus, whom I loved, is dead. I loved him more than any comrade. I loved him like my head, my life, myself. I lost him, killed him….he (Hector) killed and looted my Patroclus.”

And for some reason, some historians say they were just friends.

Achilles may be a jerk but seeing him devastated over Patroclus is genuinely heartbreaking.

The way I audibly gasped.

With all the action that is happening, you can easily forget that Achilles is still in his TENT, sulking in a blanket burrito.

The more I read this book, the more heart sinks for the baby gays in the 1990s-2000s.

Also rage at how the media sexualized queer women and the male gaze but I’ll leave that for the review.

A few pages in and this is one of the best descriptions of Anne Lister I’ve seen in a while:

“Anne Lister, a gender- bending property owner, who was collecting rent checks and the moans of women in 19th century Halifax.”

Superb!
