Allen Zhang is finished with Project Hail Mary
After finishing this book, I learned a lot. Through the character Ryland Grace, I got to see how using persistent thinking and logical reasoning can help create positive outcomes from the most improbable situations. The story also shows how trust and cooperation can develop in unexpected ways. It was a satisfying ending because it felt exciting and emotional at the same time.

Trust becomes the main focus in this part. Ryland Grace and the unknown presence make progress, but they still have many differences to overcome. Small discoveries begin to matter more because they can lead to bigger solutions. I liked how the book puts science, teamwork, and suspense together at the same time because it requires thinking, and that creates more unknown.

Things start to feel more controlled in this part of Project Hail Mary, but not completely safe. With more testing and observation, Ryland Grace begins to understand the situation better. Rather than guessing, his decisions were more based on actual evidence. Still, he doesn't know everything. What problems might stop them from fully communicating? The progress is real, but the tension hasn’t gone away.

The focus shifts to closer observation and understanding. Ryland Grace relies on testing and logic to study the unknown presence. How will they clearly communicate with each other? This section highlights how science helps turn confusion into understanding while continuing to build tension through discoveries.

Ryland Grace gets closer to understanding the unknown presence. He studies it carefully and uses science to determine the facts. As he digs deeper and deeper, the situation becomes tenser as well. What exactly is inside the object, and how will it communicate with him? The book demonstrates the importance of logic and observation in this context.

The situation becomes more intense. Grace studies the unknown presence and tries to understand it. This made me curious because it seems like he may not be alone. What is this presence, and how will he interact with it? As the book progresses, it explains more about how astrophage behaves and how the ship’s systems function. It also shows how careful and logical Grace must be to survive and continue the mission.

This part made me ask a lot of questions. The cylinder is very hot, and I wonder why. I guess that it could be from another complete different environment. I was also curious about the alien presence, which could be machines instead of living beings. The Petrova line at Tau Ceti was especially exciting. Maybe it suggests that there is possible contact with other life.

I had many questions, like why the cylinder is so hot and what the alien presence may be. I'm curious if it could be machines instead of living beings, and predict that Ryland Grace will be interacting with it in the near future. I also found it interesting how quickly scientists learned to farm astrophage. I think the most exciting moment was discovering the Petrova line, showing signs of other life.

The situation on Earth is serious when scientists learn more and more about the astrophage. I was surprised by how quickly it turned from an interesting science that scientists were trying to discover into a global emergency. I was also surprised by Eva Stratt’s leadership as he made very strict and tough decisions. I disagree with Eva Stratt as she should think more about people’s feelings and not only the result.

I was surprised that Andy Weir created tension right away at the start of the story. The story starts with confusion, slowly revealing the information, making me very curious about what will happen next. The author catches my attention quickly. In the book, the main character loses his memory, so that he learns everything at the same time I do. I think the astrophage will become the center since it's causing problems

What made me really interested is how the story doesn’t end with a big event, but with small, thoughtful discoveries. For example, Dex was talking about fe, choices, and purpose, while Mosscap quietly observes and asks questions. It makes me wonder if money and wealth are the only things we need? I don't think so. I think that we should focus on the purpose of the things we do and how we are doing it.

Dex and Mosscap face a challenge in the wilderness where the road disappears, and they have to decide what to do next. I found it interesting that Dex decided to push forward despite the situation. The way that Mosscap was asking the questions caught my attention, as to the reader, the journey feels more about the deeper reasons behind rather than reaching the destination.

The story's slowing down just enough to allow Dex to observe small, almost everyday details in the wild with curiosity, while Mosscap observes and poses thought-provoking questions, piqued my interest. Every page makes me pause and think about the things that people might miss in their surroundings, and the journey feels authentic, messy, and full of small surprises.

The pacing this part feels uneven. Some parts are calm and simple, while others drop everything suddenly, revealing a heavy reflection. That would fit with how Dex feels: loose externally, with everything tensed up inside. Conversations do not feel robotic, which adds to their realism. Instead of building dramatic action, the author builds tension through small shifts in tone and thought.

The absence of the crickets feels representative to me also because it's a suggestion of what humans have done to take away from Panga. It’s not just a lost species; it’s proof that people no longer notice the small, meaningful details around them. Dex has said he is moving on because there are no more crickets, but it seems like an excuse to escape from a seemingly perfect life that has no real meaning.

So far in the book, the world stills seems to be quite peaceful but slightly unsettled as well. Sibling Dex’s work as a tea monk seems chill, but it’s clear they’re searching for something more. I find it interesting that the robots gained consciousness and left without violence or anger. The tension feels quiet and internal, and it isn’t dramatic. I’m curious to see what Dex believes is missing from their life.

By the end of the book, it’s clear how much Changez has changed. His time in New York and in the corporate world made him question who he really is, and after 9/11, he felt even more out of place. Returning to Pakistan, he sees the value in family and history and the contrast with the US, coming back to a more traditional community. The story ends, and he’s found where he belongs, even if it’s complicated.

I found it particularly interesting that Changez attempts to establish certain traits in Chris to keep Erica, much as he had previously molded parts of himself to feel accepted in America. His obsessive thoughts about Erica have a perplexing impact, reflecting how love can change reality. After returning from Chile, New York does not feel like home, and his beard marks him as the steoreotypical terrorist.

Hamid builds tension using Changez's collected and measured tone, which portrays his American life as successful yet tenuous. A lot of his experience is shaped by forces outside his control, especially racism and suspicion after 9/11, while his response to them is more of a choice. This notion is related to Non Sibi, as Changez was afforded a choice to be loyal to elements of himself instead of demanding conformity

Changez’s beard shows his growing distance from America and his pride in his roots. He is no longer trying as hard to fit the image of an Underwood Samson employee. I was also struck by the racism he faces, especially being held up at the airport, which makes him feel unwelcome. His complicated feelings for Erica and his reaction to 9/11 reveal an inner conflict about his belonging of America

In this section, I felt Changez is starting to leave and get farther away from the life he once admired before. His confidence in America looks to be weaker, and he becomes more aware of how events around him affect his identity. I noticed how his thoughts turn more critical, especially about control. These pages made me feel complex because it shows how quickly belonging can fade when trust is broken.

Changez appears successful at this point, with a good job, a relationship, and high status, but there is tension under the surface. He often hides parts of himself to fit into American culture that never accepts him. His trip to Manila makes him value modern success more and compare it to Lahore. I was surprised by how openly he admitted feeling pleased after 911, since it only confirmed the American man’s fears.

In these pages, my feelings toward Changez became more mixed. As I was reading, I noticed that the confidence of Changez started to go away. It happens especially when he talks about being seen differently. This made me feel uncomfortable because it shows how quickly respect can turn into suspicion. Hamid's calm but aggressive style showed how outside events can change how someone sees themselves.

I feel both impressed by Changez but also uneasy about his confidence. The pride that he has in his success and education shows how much he wants to belong to America, yet there is a quiet tension beneath his words. It made me think about how identity can shift depending on who is watching when he said that others look at him differently. Hamid had a calm but aggressive tone makes me wonder his sense of belonging.

I felt a sense of discomfort right away from the start of The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Changez’s courteous line, “Excuse me, sir, but may I be of assistance?” sounds friendly, but it creates tension because the listener appears to be suspicious. I felt uncomfortable knowing whom to trust. Hamid's monologue style prompts me to reflect on how fear and misunderstanding shape identity in all its forms, after 911.

The pages that I read made me feel that the emotional barrier had become a problem in the family. The author used small actions—a shaky voice, a stiff posture—to show how stressed the family is. I felt uneasy when I was reading the book, when David realized that adults don’t always know what to do in a situation. The book also made me think about when the person you rely on the most falls apart, and what happens

The pages that I read made me feel about the heavy strain that justice can put on a family. The author's writing showed anger, fear, and pride, and these emotions can slowly tear and pull people apart from each other. When I was reading the book, I also felt tense watching David's reactions. These moments were the strongest, and the book made me think about how much pain you can take talking about the truth.

The pages that I read really emphasize how pressure can push each person in the story to show who they truly are. The author's tense and pressuring structure shows how the heart really changes the character, and I felt uneasy reading the book as well. I also felt a lot of sympathy for David, because understanding that not everything is unfair is hard, even if you are doing the right thing.

In those pages, the author focused on talking about how stress, guilt, and pressure can reshape and change a person's mind completely. Before, he thought that adults were strong and positive, but now he sees that adults are not that brave and honest, even though they want to be. Through David’s thoughts, I can feel how hard it is to keep talking about the truth when it brings pain to the people you care about most.
