I was not suprised at all that Changez went back home to Lahore. Throughout the book Changez never fit in America life. He wasn't like anyone else in NYC. From examples like the scene when they were all in the limousine but Changez knew that he didn't belong. He belonged out on the streets with the other lower class people. Overall Changez knew that he needed to go home because that is where he fit in the best.

I don't understand why Changez can't get over Erica. Especially as her mental health declines, Changez wants to be their for her and make sure she's okay. Even after multiple times of Erica telling him that she can't get over Chris , but Changez still can't get over her and is tempted to see her and spend time with her. Changez doesn't understand why she can't get over Chris.

After Changez flew back from Pakistan I was suprised that he decided to grow out his beard. After all that has happened people will thing that he is a terriost and hates America. Even Jim and Wainwright said that he should shave it because it made the people around him uncomfortable. People were scared that Changez had something going on and grew out his beard for a certain reason.

I was suprised in chapter 8 when a random man came up to Changez and said that he is an Arab and made comments to him like he was a territorst. Changez wasn't even an Arab but because he looked Muslim and had a beard the man assumed he was responsible for 9/11 and hated America. Changez even said that after they both looked at each other and that Changez was throbbing with anger. I wonder how Changez deals with this?

I was confused on why Changez was smiling after he heard about 9/11. He said he wasn't happy about all of the people that died but he was happy that America got attacked. He said that it proved to America that they aren't invulnerable from the world. That they can be attacked at any moment. He was happy that it showed it wasn't just Pakistan that wasn't the perfect country. America also had its weaknesses.

Changez keeps on comparising Pakistan and America and his personal view of it all. Something I saw was when Changez was talking about the flying creatures as immigrants and some survive and some don't. He mentioned them stuggling and crashing into a large building. He is referenceing what happened on 9/11. The flying creatues symbolize the plane and then the large building symbolizes the twin towers.

I was confused on why Erica's dad was testing Changez's pateince. Changez said that he felt calm when he was with her parents and in her house. He said he felt at ease. Then Erica's dad was saying some pretty harsh stuff about Pakistan and this made Changez really frustrated. He also made some remarks about fundamentalism which also made Changez unhappy. I wonder why this happened? Did her dad not like Pakistan?

While Changez was on vacation, the group and him discussed what their dreams were. Everyone gave serious answers and discussed what they wanted to do in life. While Changez was joking around and said he hoped to be the "dictator of an Islamic Republic with nuclear capability" Page (29). I wonder what his actual dream is or if he even has one. If their is something he wants to do with his life.

I was confused at first on how everyone could tell right away that he was American. It said the way he just carried himself and went on about life. You could also tell because he acted scared. He thought that maybe something was going to happen to him. I learned though that every culture or religion has their own way that they do things. How they act, talk, eat, etc. The American just didn't follow those patterns.

I was wondering at first why Frank killed himself? As I was thinking though it all made sense. People in town knew Frank as an amazing man. A war hero, star athlete, and many other things. As news broke out though people would change their view of Frank. Frank would have hated people thinking of him being a bad person instead of a good person. So Frank killed himself to prevent people from talking bad about him.

I was surprised how Grandpa reacted when Wesley told him about Frank. Grandpa said that even out of all of the horrible things that Uncle Frank did you can't arrest him. Frank is a respected war hero and most of all your brother. I wonder if Grandpa reacted like this because Frank was his favorite, or because this was going to hurt the Hayden name and that's all Grandpa cared about. He only cared about having power.

I was surprised when Marie's mom didn't want her buried in Montana. She wanted to take her back to North Dakota. Did Mrs. Little Soldier not know what the Haydens did for Marie? They gave Marie a place to live and gave her a job. Instead Mrs. Soldier didn't want to hear. She just wanted to leave. I wonder if she thought that Marie's death had something to do with the Haydens so that's why she didn't talk to them.

I was shocked when Len was talking to David on page 86. Did Len love Davids mom? He would always try and help her out whenever he could and always looked good around her. Len also could be jealous of Wes? Wes is an important figure in town with being the sheriff. Len might think that he should be the sheriff and get all of the benefits that being a sheriff comes with.

On page 63 I was surprised that Uncle Frank used to like Indian girls. That Grandpa Hayden caught him hanging out with an Indian girl when he was a little bit older than David. I wonder if Uncle Frank truly liked her? and if he did why does he do the stuff that he does now. I wonder if something changed the way he thinks about the Indians so that's why he does that stuff now. Also maybe his father told him not to.

I was surprised that Wes Hayden decided to meet with Ollie. Earlier in the book we learned that Wes kind of discriminated against Indians. Also not only did he just meet with Ollie but he enjoyed Ollie. On page 48 Wes said "He's a testimony to what hard work will get you." He's saying that Ollie is a very hard worker when earlier in the book he said that Indians were very stubborn and lazy.

I was surprised at first when the dad didn't think that his brother molested Indian girls. Even after his wife and Marie told him it's true he still wouldn't believe that his brother would actually do that. At the end of page 43 though he finally realized that it is true that his brother does these type of things. I wonder with him being the sheriff is he going to give his brother an easier time for his crimes?

I was wondering why the author made Marie Little a member of the Sioux tribe. I think that it might be because people of the Sioux tribe were treated differently. I learned that in 1948 people who were from different tribes were discriminated against and treated badly. So maybe the author is trying to get that point across and try and have us learn more about her story.

It surprised me on page 7 that the Mom never wanted to live In Montana. She never wanted to live the life that they were living right now. As I kept reading on though I realized that she always wanted her husband to be an Attorney not a sheriff. She believed that if he was an attorney they would be living somewhere else and making more money. It also said on page 9 that she was worried about her son's values.
