Also genuinely impresses with the quality of the sex scenes so far. Like I'm ace so I've found so many smut scenes in book bleh because they have a hetero mindset that you are already baseline horny and don't do the work to craft good sex on a structural level, but I'm actually genuinely impressed so far

Not super loving it, there is far more male lusting rapey pov moments than I would have expected from a female author which is making it less enjoyable vs the TV show which just had a different vibe

Having watched the TV series first is making stuff so bittersweet even though its stated from the beginning the jist of what is to come

I worry I'm too autistic cynical because fmc sees obviously supernatural things and is punished by the world and society for it and instead of thinking they are real and others cannot see them, she fully accepts the mental illness diagnosis and yes it's a historical setting but girl if you keep seeing things at some point you have to accept its real and that others can't pick up on - like when I hear electricity

Should I have read the prequel first, who knows? But it did lead to a bit of confusion when the starting chapter had the pov character not be the main character of the prequel

I'm pushing through so I don't DNF this because I was so close and it isn't even a long audiobook

I can appreciate good smut. I have dozens of ao3 tabs open. So even though I'm asexual, I can appreciate a good sexy writing style but jesus christ I'm struggling through this book because everything is omg he's so sexy so evil so sexy I am pretending to be sexy woman let me go read 50 shades of grey - which is a red flag for smut - and I'm seriously contemplating DNF-ing out of sheer irritation. It's only 6hr long

I'm 2 hours into the 8 hour audiobook
Trying to listen to the oldest audiobook in my library to try and clear the backlog so I'm really hoping that the book does not end up as interesting as the 2 hours has made it seem because I really shouldn't divert to a full series lol

Delightful little book
Standalone so no pressure to read 12 more books to finish off the story lol

The bus to a movie was a big help in getting into the meat of the book. I always struggle getting into a new book world but no wifi and a purpose gets you a heck of a lot of a way there

Inconsistent sleeping really messes with your using an audiobook to go to sleep reading rate

Im at chapter 7 of the audiobook, things are getting interesting

Main character does embroidery and tapestry as a hobby and I immediately like her 20% more because I also am into embroidery

A reread but oh does it hold up and improve with rereading
