Why am I reading a history of exercise & fitness? I don't know, but it's just interesting enough to keep going.

This is so good.

This is all right, but it's rather slow, and keeps referring to events that happened in one of the previous novels in the series. I haven't read that, so it's a little confusing... and irritating too.

Some dude on the internet said this was good, and so far, I don't disagree.

This is... odd.

Over the years, I have accumulated a lot of Big Books - kept buying more, but never seemed to be reading any of them. So I'm reading one of them, and thanks to Steinberg's accessible and plain writing style, I find it pretty good so far.

I had to read over 500 pages of a 750 page book to realize I've already read it before. Does that say something about the book, or something about me?

Of all the things I might have expected from this book, a *pirate story* is not one of them! 🏴‍☠️🦜🏴‍☠️

I just have this feeling that I am not going to like Saul Bellow.

Galton Flood, you are the worst, the very worst of men.

They say this book is about hope. I don't think I've gotten to that part yet. All I feel is despair about chronicle of crushing greed and insanity that has overtaken the American political system.

I am sure i already read this once a long time ago. Though i remember nothing else, I'm pretty sure I didn't like it. We'll see how it goes this second time around.

I kind of hate this book.

It started by giving the Ick, but as it goes on, this book becomes ever more deeply fucked up.

I really can't decide whether to give up on this or not. Which probably means both that i should, and that i won't.

Spectacular drawings, terrible story. Not sure if i will make it through this.

I don't love the narrative, but the writing is so pretty.

Weird translating and careless editing are doing the book no favors. Usually expect better from Europa editions.

WTAF is going on here?! After 80 pages, i can barely keep straight who's whom, are they good or bad, and what is the point of it all, anyway? i hate this so far, and can't believe it has so many 4 and 5 star ratings.

I'd like to be hiking the canyon rather than reading about hiking the canyon. Also, I'd kind of like to be reading something else. I'll probably finish this, and the writing is good, but it's kind of not what I am in the mood for rn.

Compulsively readable. I could stay up all night with this.

Funny how I'm less interested in reading this now that I've realized I already read it. But if you don't remember it at all, isn't it like reading it for the first time?

I am always confused and full of discomfort when I read something with a dislikable narrator. Like, am i being judgy or am i supposed to dislike them? Is that the point? Do i withhold judgment or do i hope for them to fail? As if such feelings irl are not bad enough...

The writing is kind of clumsy, but i am learning enough to stick with this, at least for now.

Books longer than 1000 pages are almost never a good idea. Ive been reading this 6 days longer than forever, and still only about a quarter of the way through? Ugh.

Everyone knows this but me - or at least the million people who've read this book know it - but Stephen King wrote a novel about the pandemic... 30-40 years before the pandemic. This is eerily prescient.

This is very long, and very detailed, possibly more than I'd like it to be. It's also, in parts, fascinating.

TBH, didn't expect much from this, but so far, enjoying it a good bit.
