First time I've picked this up since I fell in love with it as a 17-year-old. Three chapters in and there's already so much to love: Betsey Trotwood's barmy entrance and exit, Mr Peggoty's 'drowndead' relatives, a superb evocation of a child's eye view and a devastating cliffhanger that knocks the breath out of you like a punch in the stomach. I'm wallowing in the sheer pleasure of revisiting this novel.
