1830s Oxford University with magic. Systemic racism is a focal point with the only non-white students being enrolled in the Royal Institute of Translation aka Babel. Magic and translation work hand in hand.

More politics and mind games. The action is starting to ramp up. Safety vs Freedom. Pushes and pulls in introspection.

I am enjoying the inner dialogue of all the characters. It shows a side of them that would otherwise be lost. The new characters being introduced provides a hostility that feels much needed since this story is heavy on the politics so far. The frequent revisits to Vin’s past is starting to feel overly repetitive.

More Lore. Nobles. Sazed and Feruchemy. Vin is more comfortable posing as a noble and is finding herself in the webs of noble family disputes. Kelsier’s true intentions are still a mystery. I think he means well, but his ego and personal motives will definitely lead to a falling out with key players in the rebellion.

The allomancy magic system is very interesting. I can tell Vin will develop drastically as the story progresses. I predict that I may see an ugly side to Kelsier down the road. Overthrowing the Lord Ruler is a massive undertaking and I’m looking forward to seeing how it pans out.
