Really good reading session with this today. Read 80 pages of this in one sitting. The book finally clicked with me. It is an easy plot, but I finally understood some of the meaning. I really loved the part of the novel with Katherine Driscoll. I have not had an affair but have felt the separation of love and the relationship that they once had. Felt like I was reading myself. I can see a lot of Stoner in myself.

Pretty good book so far, reminds me a lot of Steinbeck's writing style and pace. Makes me want to re-read East of Eden. Very easy to read and follow. I wish he could communicate better with his wife, but that's not something everyone is naturally good at; it's a learned skill. I don't understand why people get married to people they don't even hardly know or even like. I feel it is a more old fashioned thing.

The whole novel in the past 200 pages or so have been insane, great payoff. It all feels like an extremely bad breakup that everyone is going through in a way with how emotional it’s been and all of the turmoil.

This book made me feel very deep emotions for the family of Katerina Ivanovnas family and orphaned children lead out in the street in torn up rags/ costumes to beg from her consumptive delirium. Hard to say a book actually made me feel.

Incredible chapters today, by far the best passages in the entire novel so far are between Raskolnikov and Sonya after he confesses. I was so shocked to see that Sonya loves him. I am going to have to look more into that and the reasoning. The whole Napolean ideas were very interesting as well.

Did not like the character Lebezyatnikov, quite annoying passages of him talking angrily to Pyotr. Still enjoying this book though. I feel like it has been sharpening my mind and making me more accustomed to long, difficult novels. Setting the bar high with this one. Ready to finish this, but will also enjoy the rest and take my time with this masterpiece.

He just gave himself away. I don’t think petrovich knew in the beginning but raskolnikov just had an awful reaction. This book knows what you are thinking it’s strange. You will think of something then read it in a sentence or two. I feel the man that called raskolnikov a murderer was just set up by petrovich to get in his mind. He even explained it when he was explaining his tactics to roidon.

Part 4 chaper IV of this has been the by far the most intriguing chapter so far. The part of hearing how hellish her life is along with her mothers really was eye opening and made me very grateful for my life. Living in rags and fith resorting to prostituion becuase your dad is a drunk and your mom has consumption to feed all those kids as well. Her faith in god was inspiring and makes me feel more faithful as well.

I am really starting to enjoy this book again. This is defineltey my hardest read so far and putting in the work to go slowly and understand has lead to truly enjoying this book. It really is not that hard of a read in all honesty compared to other novels out there, and I know now why so many regard dostoevsky as one of the greats. His writing is so satisfying to read and is set up so beutifully.

The first half of this book is golden, can see it starting to go down a bit but still amazing. Probably some of the best wisdom you can read. It doesnt just tell you what to do but gives instances and scenarios so you can actually remeber and when challenged in life remeber the passage and prevail in what you are doing.

Read the first chapter. Long ass book but looking forward to it. Will be interesting reading it up here in Lubbock where the Comanche tribe resided. Crazy to think I’ve driven through canyons nearby where some of the most ruthless American warfare that has ever happened occurred. Nice Cormac McCarthy quote in the beginning too. Great book to read and learn some real history after Blood Meridian.

I love this book so far; I can really understand what people mean when they say Steinbeck is one of the greats. The book nearly brought me to tears hearing about the three friends coming together to share wine and enjoy friendship. "It is good to have friends; how lonely it is in the world if there are no friends to sit with one and to share one' grappa." The rest of the lines in this chapter are what nearly got me.
