It’s like Charles Dickens and CS Pacat had a love child! Caspian is Laurent, and so that makes me guess ahead as to what is going on. The subtle clues in his body language so making me think of what a 15/16 year old Laurent would have been like.

Adore the set up to this book, the intro lists are delightful and I bought the book for those alone. Once you’re into the story, it is dark and sludgy! It has a child as the main character but it is not necessarily a child’s book. I’m popping back in from time to time, so that the living mud doesn’t seep too deeply into my soul!

Amazing book. It’s like a graphic novel relying upon the reader for the internal images. POV is insane and you’re drifting through people’s heads, but it all flows in a beautiful dreamlike epic cinematic tide!
