I couldn’ t get into this book.

This book is less novel than dialectic. I had started it years ago and put it back on the nightstand when I moved into this house 18 months ago. Last week, it fell off the shelf onto the floor so I decided to pick it up again, and this time, I am receptive to its messages. Isn’t that always the case with Coehlo’s works? They seem to come to you instead of the other way around.

I don’t understand what why all the hype for this book. I am struggling, after 3 months, to finish it. Pages and pages are devoted to characters I have no interest in. At times, it reads like a scathing indictment of our society but at others, like an over-the-top parody. And don’t get me started on the lawyer’s portrayal, which is stereotypically harsh.
