Very small print so have out aside for now, in favour of another by K H .

Unfortunately the print is so small that I hane had to abandon what looks to be another great book, until I can acquire a magnifier! I don’t understand why this particular book has been printed in this way. All her others are in standard size ..

Abandoned after 148 pages .. just not enjoying this enough to continue . I liked the initial introduction to the colourful backdrop of Marrakech, but couldn’t engage with the characters in the story, and found the situations hard to believe in .

Dipping onto this one for its references to war artists such as John Piper, whose artwork features on the cover, and the reason I bought this book!

I bought this book purely for its cover .. a detail from a painting by John Piper. There are many references to art and artists amd writers who documented the devastation of WW2 and I may well read more of this in time.

It’s taken me some years to start reading this huge book, but already enjoying it. Not as “heavy” as it first appeared and great to immerse myself in the world of these artists and their contemporaries, in preparation for going to see. Exhibition of John Piper’s work soon!

I have a 50 page rule .. If I’m not enjoying a book by this point I stop. I only managed to get to page 32 with this one ! Having thoroughly enjoyed The Pull of the Stars by the same author, I was very disappointed by this one .

I was given this book for Christmas and decided I’d dip into it this morning while watching a pot boil!! I can’t stop reading it! It’s fascinating, well written and very engaging . Folk takes as well as facts from around the world . Love it!
