Interesting but SO melodramatic…

I tried to get through this book but I couldn't find the central theme/ purpose. It seemed like a never ending litany of the horrors of mental health care through the ages and random tangents into the mental illness of members of the author's family. I finally have up because listening to a long list of brutal brain surgeries without any apparent goal just isn't my thing.

I have no interest in EVER going to Everest...

SO many conversations I need to have with my kids. UGH.

I don't like either of these people. It's hard to feel bad that she is gone. (That sounds mean!)

This book has surprisingly funny moments, but it is also very hard. My heart is sick over the reality of this man's childhood and the senselessness of war. I am not sure if I will make it through the rest of the book.

I am actively skimming...

I am really struggling to get into this book. It is taking a long time to get going for me.
