Fascinating, heart-breaking, providing much-needed context

Really disappointed so far...previous book ended with traumatic events. This book opens just a few days later, and Melrose and company are larking about like nothing happened?! So sloppy. Unforgivable sloppiness. I'm too far into this series to quit, but the lack of continuity is a huge letdown.

Enjoying this immensely, but huge plot hole is bothering me no end. I'm hoping it is explained by the end, but won't be surprised if it isn't.

Shaping up to be another great novel from Tana French. If only there were someone who could edit out the horribly hostile work environment angle. The Murder Squad is the worst place to work in the FREAKING WORLD. The detective work and plotting are so good; but so over the same old story of our heroes overcoming the mega-assholes on the Squad. UGH. NOT ENJOYABLE.

Ugh what a bunch of miserable characters and events.

This is a devastating book. Prophetic and soooo depressing. But so necessary for any hope of righting the ship.

Lots of beatings, assault, and violent encounters (including a car accident). Recurring theme. Hospitals too.

I honestly do not understand the popularity of this author. Every paragraph, every character is absurdly, eye-rollingly melodramatic. Unless the mystery itself turns out to be really good, this is the last Penny book I'll read.

Still not a fan of Bradbury's writing style, but currently reading Chapter 39 with tears. Includes several pages of a character speaking of on the power of connectedness, empathy, and love, and it's one of the most profound expressions of these concepts I've ever read.

I'm sure this will be worth reading, but Bradbury 's writing style grates on me for some reason. Slogging through slowly.

I'm so ashamed...but I need something light. And these stories are so bad they're almost good...

I don't know if I can make it through this book. It's deeply, deeply disturbing.

Damn this book is dark. Difficult to read.

Still slogging through this well-written book filled with horrible 13-year-old boys. I'm only reading so I can complete Mitchell's works before his latest release. Must...finish...

The kids in this book are heartless monsters. A difficult read so far.
